High Flow Filters are specially designed filters to operate at a high liquid flow rate. A modern alternative to standard bag or cartridge filtration, high flow filter elements offer a significantly improved service life through an increase in filter surface area; thereby reducing filter change-out times and disposal costs, while reducing the number of filtration elements that would otherwise be required within a system.
Typical High Flow elements are entirely constructed of polypropylene – though a glass fibre option exists for high temperature applications. Filter media is pleated to provide high filter surface area. Filter element diameter is 6″. Available in nominal or absolute micron ratings.
Two styles of High Flow Filter are available:
- High Flow Bags: Can be retrofitted into certain size 2 filter bag housings. Pearl Filtration’s HEXB housing is an example of such a unit. Installing High Flow Bags increases filter service life, and has the capacity to provide highly accurate filtration otherwise unattainable with standard filter bags.
- High Flow Cartridges: Filter lengths are either 20″, 40″, 60″ to suit compatible filter housings. High Flow Cartridges are often used in systems with exceptionally high flow rates, or as an alternative to large-scale multi-round standard 2.5″ cartridge housings. Significantly fewer filter elements are required per system, providing highly efficient filter change-out and servicing times.
High Flow filter housings are available in stainless steel, with many single and multi-round housings readily kept in stock. Stainless steel housings are suitable for industrial and general water filtration; and a high-grade variant with polished surfaces and welds can be manufactured, ideal for large-scale sanitary applications.
Housings constructed from fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP) are an excellent option for salt water filtration (pre-RO), particularly in desalination plants. FRP housings can easily be assembled together in parallel to further increase production of a filter system.
